Guidance for Mentees
  • A good mentor will take you out of your comfort zone, encouraging you to build upon your strengths, address any weaknesses, and stretch yourself to improve your skills and experience, and get ahead in your career.
  • Be clear what you want: Do you want to enhance a particular skill set or develop your experience in a different field or change careers or want advice on a specific project?
  • Find someone you like as a good mentoring relationship works best if you like them and want to be like them.
  • Email to ask for an informal chat and to get a sense of their career path and whether you will get along
  • You need to be proactive in making the best use of your mentor – they will NOT do the legwork for you.
  • A good mentor will leave you feeling empowered, encouraging you to take full responsibility for your own career decisions and the consequences that come with them.
